FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR FAMILIES
WHAT DO I DO WHEN I RECEIVE CANDIDATES FOR CONSIDERATION?
If the applicant is not a current InReach staff, then a phone interview should be conducted. If the phone interview goes well and you would like to meet in person, contact your QP so a background check can be completed.
HOW MUCH TIME TO I HAVE TO CONTACT THE CANDIDATES THAT ARE SENT TO ME?
You have one week to initiate contact with the applicant for an interview. After one week, the applicant will be pulled for consideration elsewhere. If extenuating circumstances affect your ability to contact them in a week, let your QP know.
IF I AM BRINGING STAFF WITH ME, WHAT DO THEY NEED TO DO TO BE HIRED BY YOUR AGENCY?
Each staff person is required to submit an application completed in full along with a signed Background Check Authorization. They will be required to go through the same vetting process as all other staff. The vetting process includes a criminal background check, education verification, employment history verification, motor vehicle records check, personal reference check and drug test. The minimum qualifications of a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution and a valid driver’s license will apply. Failure to meet any of these requirements will make them ineligible to continue the hiring process.
HOW LONG DOES THE VETTING PROCESS TAKE?
Criminal background checks can take up to 10 days to be processed, sometimes longer if your staff has lived out of state. They are not able to start training untilbackground checks are complete.
WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP AFTER THE VETTING PROCESS?
When the background checks are complete, the HR department will contact your staff to schedule their initial on boarding, which is a 2-hour session at the office where they will complete their new-hire paperwork and sign up for training classes. Staff will then have 24 hours to get their drug screening test. Failure to have the drug screen within 24 hours will make your staff ineligible for hire.
WHAT ARE YOUR TRAINING REQUIREMENTS AND HOW LONG DOES TRAINING TAKE?
Each staff will be required to complete 7 classroom training sessions and 6 self-study guides before they can start to work. These classroom trainings can last anywhere from 1-3 hours each. These are offered both during the day and in the evening to accommodate everyone’s schedule. We allow a maximum of 30 days to complete training. How quickly they can start working will depend on their availability to come to training.
CAN STAFF TRANSFER TRAINING FROM ANOTHER AGENCY?
Staff may transfer First Aid, CPR, and NCI (North Carolina Interventions), with the approval of our Training Coordinator.
The other training classes are designed to be InReach-specific so cannot be transferred. All staff are required to keep up with their training certifications! Allowing a certification to lapse means they will not be able to bill for services!
WILL YOU PAY FOR TRAINING?
We will compensate Employees for their training time, but we do not compensate Contractors. Contractors are responsible for paying for their own state-required trainings.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN EMPLOYEE AND A CONTRACTOR?
Independent Contractors will receive a 1099 tax form and have their direct deposit “settlements” routed through Open Force, a third-party vendor specializing in Contractor management. There are additional fees required from Contractors. Contractors must pay for their own state-required trainings, and they are required to carry Occupational Accident Insurance through Open Force, in lieu of Worker’s Compensation. Open Force also charges additional administrative fees that are taken from a Contractor’s settlement. Hourly rates for services provided by a Contractor are higher than for an Employee, offsetting the additional costs to them.
Employees will receive a W-2 tax form and are compensated for their training time. Families who have chosen the Agency with Choice model are required by Cardinal to have Employees as staff.
