First In Families operates on an application basis and has no restrictions on the types of goals that it can help a family achieve. Applications may be downloaded from our website. 
Applicants may also call our office (704-536-6661) to request to have an application mailed or may come by our office to pick up an application.
To be eligible for assistance, individuals/families must meet the following criteria:
- Live in Mecklenburg County,
- Have a household income that does not exceed $65,000.00 after taxes, and
- Have a family member with a developmental disability or traumatic brain injury.
When applying for the first time, applicants must provide:
- Proof of disability,
- Proof of income, and
- Proof of address (ID card, driver’s license or utility bill other than a phone bill).
If it has been more than one year since the applicant last applied, they must provide proof of income and proof of address. Vendor information must be submitted with all applications.
